the Death Knight...
One of the oddest things Blizzard did during the WotLK release was to introduce a Hero-class called the Death Knight. They could be any faction, any race and came in three flavors; Blood (tank), Frost (dps) and Unholy (kinda like a warlock with heavy armor).
They started at level-45 (providing you had a toon at least that level already) and had their own unique start-up area. When you finished the quest-line you usually left a level higher (48) and with a full-set of "Blues" that were equivalent to tier-3 dungeon gear. You were roughly x2 as powerful as any other class then currently in the game (regardless of their gear). In other words they dominated the field of battle.
To everyone's surprise (not really) they flooded the servers, and no one could get anything done becaause they were the in-thing at the beginning. They could take on Elites 2-3 levels higher without a problem. On one to one fights you could not kill a Blood because they kept regenning health with each hit. Was maddness -and the whole stability of the game was in jeperdy.
So -Blizzaed nerf'd them, then nerf'd them and nerf'd them again and just like that they were wothless.
Blizzard has always had issues with keeping the balance of power (level-playing field, so to speak) between classes. Every tweak they make causes ripples between classes and a lot of negative feedback, Over the years a lot of resenment builds up as you watch your class get nerf'd and become vertualy wothless. But Blizz does try -I'll give em credit for that.
My DK run was alot of fun -and considering I had already done it on other toons, I really noticed how much easier it was to play him in those same situations. Being OP'd (Over-Powered) is alot of fun -albeit unfair to other players.
